Doris, if you swipe up from the bottom of the screen, you should get a control panel overlay, showing several items available for adjustment. on the top row of icons, you should see a small "padlock" with a circular arrow around it. On your phone, this is probably light colored, meaning the rotate to landscape mode is disabled. Tap this icon, and it should turn dark. After you tap that icon, swipe that screen down or hit the home button. Everything should work OK now.
