Re: [apple-iphone] Clean iPhone 6 screen

Can anyone tell me your opinion on using a hand sanitizer to clean the iPhone 6 screen.

My opinion is "never!"

When I bought my phone at Verizon, they told me to use Purell hand sanitizer and even demonstrated it for me.

Verizon bears no responsibility for replacing a device damaged by misuse.
If you damage it, they would happily SELL you a replacement.

But yesterday my son expressed concern that it might take some coating off the phone screen and advised I not trust Verizon but to call Apple directly instead.

The screen has an oleophobic coating to prevent oils and greases (from our hands) from sticking to it. You may have removed that, causing the screen to *require* more frequent cleaning.

But the point in the sanatizers over water (according to the Verizon rep) is because the alcohol in them evaporates so quickly, no liquid would be absorbed.

That would be a relevant argument if alcohol was *needed* to clean the screen.
It is NOT.
Mostly, I wipe the screen off on the front of my Tee shirt. Since early 2009, this has never caused a scratch. Occasionally there will be a sticky bit of something, that comes right off with a slightly water-dampened napkin.
