Turning it off every so often, forces it to get a new connection to the network, and that is all.

I was told a while ago by Apple employees to turn it off once a day or two days. Something about resetting something. Sorry I don't recall the reason but I will do it. I usually have my phone on all the time as my kids are scattered and will reach out with text rather than calling and I do let the battery run down once a month to keep the battery calibrated.
