[apple-iphone] Any way to stop sound effects when you're on the phone?

 

Is there any way to stop text messaging sounds and other sounds when you're on the phone talking to people?

I was trying to talk on the phone and a friend was text messaging me and it kept playing the special tone for him that could be heard through the phone.

When you're talking on the phone all other sounds should be off or they are playing real loud in your ear with the phone to your head.
