It's worse in the UK. The base model is £269 whereas the Google Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD start at £159. It's well known that these don't make a profit in themselves, but even so that's too much of a gap. £199 should have been the base mini price. Lots of non-Apple users bought iPads but I can't see that happening with the mini: you would buy it only if you have already "invested" in the Apple/iTunes system.
