Having worked as a Component Engineer for a fortune 500 company for about 35 years, I have worked with cables. When someone wanted to price a new short cable we had a rule. The wire is free but the connectors will cost you 50 cents each in volume. This rule has worked very well for many years.
Going by that rule, an Apple cable has two connectors so it costs them about 1 dollar to build. Apple charges $19.50 on their web site.
The one listed in the link had 5 connectors so it should cost about $2.50 to build. Everybuying.com charges $3.36 for theirs.
It may well be that this is not an Apple approved cable but it solves a problem for me that Apple will never choose to solve.
If you want to pay the Apple tax, that is your choice but people who have never worked in manufacturing need to understand what the true costs are.
