Since you are 90 minutes from an Apple Store, how about calling AppleCare. They might just mail you a new cable.
For me, the Apple Store is only 15 minutes, but I usually call AppleCare first, to run through anything I had not thought of, and so I don't have to bring in any other hardware. Sometimes I get to the store and they either replace it or run just specific tests and then sent it out for repairs. In and out fast.
