> I'm traveling to Spain for vacation at the end of March and would like to get a local Spanish SIM card to put in either my iPhone or preferably my iPad. I have an older iPhone 3GS which I have unlocked and an iPad 3rd generation with the micro Sim.

Do you know for certain that the LTE bands *your* iPad is capable of are in use in Spain?
I find no indication of that down at the bottom of:
<https://www.apple.com/ipad/LTE/>
In fact, Apple specifically says:
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5205?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US>
> iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular supports 4G LTE connectivity when used with the following carriers:
>
> Country Carrier
>
> Canada Bell
> Rogers
> Telus
>
> United States AT&T
> Verizon
>
> iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular does not support LTE in any other countries, carriers, or networks.
