I tend to find that only first time buyers purchase the smallest model.
After they have really used a smartphone, they tend to go for the largest or second largest.
And as they almost all come on contract, the difference in pricing isn't great.
We just upgraded our 2 year old iPhone 5's to iPhone 6's and the difference between 64GB and 128GB was only $3 per month.

Thanks Bobby...One thing that I found out while exploring...I had about a year's worth of old Economist Magazines that had been downloaded over time and were still sitting in my iPhone...Then I tried was removing most of my apps and re-installing them. When you remove an app, all of its data is deleted with it. (Maybe not for all apps, but for some at least...)I got my free space up from 3GB to about 6GB by doing that. and by removing lots of photographs.I wonder how close to "FULL" an iPhone can get before it starts acting weird...If I get another iPhone it will be bigger than 16GB.Bim B
