No you keep the phone after 2 years but have the option to upgrade after 1 year so you can always have the latest model. (Like me)

The old way of having a subsidized phone with a 2 year (24 month) contract seems better. At the end if the 2 years, you keep the phone. Sounds like with the new deal, at the end of 2 years you still have a balance to pay in order to keep the phone.
