[apple-iphone] Re: From Jan. 8, AT&T will no longer offer two-year iPhone contracts

I have been with ATT for years as well, though always with an iPhone (3GS,4S, 5S.) They continued to charge me the same, too, after I completed the 2-year contract. We were paying for the subsidized phone after it was already paid up. I finally discovered this November that it is necessary to switch to a different plan to be charged less. I had to ask to get the info. I did lose the Unlimited data plan, but I'm not a big user so I was paying more for no benefit. A shared plan with my DH costs abou $20 less per month and gives us unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 2G of data.

I feel I've been had, though what they did was legal. It would be good business to at least notify customers that less costly alternatives are available if we choose to look into them. But I guess the business is into squeezing out every dime rather than pursuing customer loyalty. I'll be looking hard at all carrier plans before buying my new iPhone outright.

AT&T telling me, Apple Genius and myself all thinking the almost 4 year old phone was dying, so I got a new phone. The next day AT&T admits one of their towers was failing.)

The longest contract they have offered was 2-years, but I have had each phone for about 40 months. You do the math. That means I have had for about 16 months each as an off-contact/non-susbidied phone, and yet they have never lowered my plan rate. And I held on to the grandfathered "unlimited data" plan until about 2 years ago.
