I suspect the issue is the file size. Most ISPs have a limit on the size of attachments. When I need to share large files I put them in cloud storage, like DropBox.
Apple does have a new feature that works when emailing another OS X or iOS user that automatically chunks the file & reconstructs it at the recipients end.
