Hi , thanks Pat for the reply. I am sometimes within 2-3 feet or even holding the phone and notice that when it goes black, (sleeping) that the person on the other end says something like, "are you there?" "I can't hear you". So when I wake the phone up, unlocking it, the active call resumes. I used to be able to leave my phone in my pocket then calls were very bad.
I will try calling Verizon next week.

***Are you sure that you are not roaming out of Bluetooth range while you are talking? I often use the same headset with my iPhone 6s on AT&T without dropping calls. I keep my phone in my pocket.
