Re: [apple-iphone] How is this even possible

There is a really good app in the app store that will block most telemarketers but it won't do much for your home phone. Spoofing your number is just one of the tricks they use to get you to answer. I have answered these calls too.

Garrie,

I have had the very same thing happen on my cell phone and my mother had that happen on her land line yesterday. Apparently, the caller is spoofing the number they are calling. There was an article on CNBC written on this http://www.cnbc.com/2014/07/16/hello-its-me-id-spoofers-latest-tactic-is-a-doozy.html

I would bet that nearly every one on this list has received this phone call " Hello, This is Rachel from Cardholders Services"

Normally when I receive such calls I immediately either block this caller OR I add the number to a contact that I created in my contacts called "IGNORE"

by doing the latter I might receive the call but I see IGNORE being displayed and that is exactly what I do, ignore the call.

BUT here is what happened today.

I had an incoming call to my iPhone and when I looked at the screen it was MY NAME calling me. I figured it would be my wife using another one of our phones but when I accepted the call, it was THAT RACHEL RECORDING ABOVE!

HOW is that possible? I checked the caller ID but could not determine which of my 3 phone numbers was the incoming call. None of them were highlighted as the incoming calling number.

This seems impossible. How did they do that?

Garrie
