[apple-iphone] Software on new phone is too old to restore from backup

 

I got a new phone 6s plus and am trying to set it up by restoring from the backup of my old phone which is running 9.2.

What do I do ro get my data on the new phone? Set it up as a new phone, update the software on the 6s and then restore from backup?
