Perhaps having the iOS owners downloading an app like text plus. When group chatting that can be used ( it works wifi-only iPads. The app gives a special number to use. The android owner doesn't need it. I don't have a text plan on my iPhone so I give the number to all my non Apple users so I don't get charged an arm and a leg. I have an old unlimited data plan which eliminated the $5/ month text for a limited number of texts and replaced it with $30 /month for unlimited. I rarely have more than 20 / month so it would be overkill to get unlimited !!

That was my suggestion, but they can't do that as their iPads are WiFi only, so cannot use SMS.OttoOn 13 July 2015 at 00:17, Brent whodo678@yahoo.com [apple-iphone] <apple-iphone@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
Then don't turn off iMessage, but turn on "Send as SMS", which it will only do when needed, and work in iMessage the rest of the time.
