The iphone users are on 8.x.  I'm not sure what version the Android user is on but it is a relatively recent (within 1-2 years) Samsung phone.

The purpose of iMessage is to both avoid texting charges & include SMS within one app. 

Are all on a reasonably current version of iOS?
