Brent, Your friend needs to be made aware that not everyone has unlimited text. I might be costing some of them money to send and receive SMS from him.

All my text to him, when he has not turned it off or run it out of charge, go through as SMS. They appear in green on my iPhone.

I have not figure out what happens when his device is off, because he often does not even acknowledge at all.

He's the type of guy who invites you to dinner, but you most often won't eat for 4-5 hours, or he already has the burgers on the grill and gets upset when you show up an hour later.

Have all 3 iPhone owners turned on Send as SMS? Or does one have it turned off? With it on, if a recipient does not have an iDevice, it is sent as iMessage & SMS, I would assume.
