Re: [apple-iphone] upgrading iphone 4/att next

Not Pat but I looked into the Next program.  It costs a little bit more than the regular upgrade program over the life of the contract but you get to upgrade your phone every 12 or 18 months depending on which version you select.  The advantage is you don't have to pay the up front upgrade cost which is the $199 minimum on the phone plus a $49 upgrade activation fee.

It is similar to a lease in that your phone has to be in good condition at the end of the period for you to turn your phone back in.  You basically pay for 75% of the cost of the entire phone via monthly installments and then turn it in and get a new phone.  You could probably sell your phone for more than 25% of the initial cost if you did it yourself instead of through the program.

This really only works out if you can't afford the upfront cost but are able to put an increased monthly fee down.

Regards,

Jay

Pat, are you saying that with the Next program, you have to return it, but not with the old program purchases? Does it require you to update each year? Sounds more like a lease program if that is true.

I used the NEXT program & didn't have to turn in my iPhone5s which wasn't eligible for a regular upgrade, but this new phone will have to be returned at the end of twelve months when I get a new one.

Hello, I have a question about ATT Next.  For those of you who used this program, did they make you turn in your old iPhone?  Anyone use the Next program on a line where the iphone wasn't eligible for the regular upgrade?

ordered the 64GB iPhone6 using the NEXT program. The only thing I had to do to begin using the phone was to activate it (www.att.com/activations) which was a very speedy process. The instructions for the activation were included on a printed flyer in the box with the phone. I did not try putting the SIM card from the 5s into the 6.
