I've had experience with icloud. I had my backup for 4s. I got a problem and had to format it. I tried restoring from iCloud backup and it didn't work da that backup was corrupt. I've no idea how that happened? I take regular backup to my iTunes and icloud. I deleted my corrupt backup.

I don't know, but I've accomplished the same result whether I've restored an iOS device from iCloud or iTunes on my computer. I like using both methods regularly as a precaution against data loss.
