iPhone 5s Since upgrading to iOS8, when swipe up for control center, Airplay is not there. Occasionally if restart the phone, it will be there for a short while and then disappear
I do not remember if it was missing in 8.0, but on my 5S it is there, all the time, under 8.0.2
Do you have Airplay devices there on your network?
