People may have differing experiences. I have a 5s (32GB) that is nine months old and dates from my switch to T-Mobile in January. I am running iOS 8.0.2. Just to compare my experience with Gerry's, I've given my own observations to contrast with his.
1. My battery is draining much less quickly than it did prior to iOS 8! :)
2. Wifi is strong on both my iPad Air (16 GB) and iPhone; no drop-outs, no problems with video or that sort of thing.
3. I'm not using third-party keyboards at this point; I'm delighted so far with the predictive text on the built-in keyboard and trying to save space on my iPhone and iPad. I'm going to buy replacements, when the time comes at some point, that have more space! ;)
4. The only complaint I have with Messages is that I'm not sure like it (and phone calls) ringing on both of my i-devices; it's distracting. Maybe I'll get used to it after a bit more time, though.
5. The battery percentage on both my phone and iPad show up just fine.
6. My apps are behaving the same as before. I have one app that crashes all the time, but it was doing that previous to iOS8, too. In fact, I did a clean install on my phone just to try to make that app behave. It was wasted effort. :S
7. I haven't tried automatically reloading my Starbucks card, as I prefer to do it manually.
8. My iPad has behaved beautifully since installing iOS8; no crashes, no reboots, no reinstallations.
