Have you tried deselecting the picture sync or not importing photos. I have a Mac and not a PC so not sure what is comparable. However I noticed I had problems when some pictures got corrupted.

If it makes a difference, I have no audiobooks.Also, it is always the last step (7 or 8) where it hangs up. Backup shows normal progress, as do the other steps, etc. but it hangs-up on the "importing photos" (even if none are new) and "waiting for changes to be applied".
