The Next program starts when you first sign up for it. The old iPhone that is not eligible for an upgrade IS eligible for the Next program. You do not even have to turn in that old phone! I guess it's an incentive to get people to sign up for the next program. Going forward on the Next, you choose either a 12 month upgrade or an 18 month upgrade. Which means you may upgrade your phone in 12 or 18 months time, but you must turn in that phone if you do so. You are released from owing anything more on that phone. If you choose not to upgrade in a year or 18 months, then you simply continue on until your phone is paid off, then it becomes yours completely. 12 month program has a 20 month installment schedule. The 18 month program has a 24 month installment schedule. No interest no upgrade fee. I thinks it's a great deal.

If you decide to upgrade on the Next program, don't you still have to pay of the Next contract on your old phone
