As the Apple article says, check before you go with the store or service centre that they have a battery and can fit it on that day. If it's a long way, you might prefer to send it in instead (if you can do without the phone for a few days!).

Thanks to someone in this group, I checked and my 6s was eligible for the free battery. I made an appointment at our Genius Bar here in Jacksonville, FL. When I went to my appointment, at first they said there was a (I think 2 week?) wait for a new battery since there was a back order because so many people are trying to get a new battery. Yes, even though I made an appointment, it appeared I went all the way down there just to have to make a follow up appointment to get my new battery. But when the 2nd person came to me they told me that since I was one of the 6s customers they DID have a battery to give me today. I had to leave my phone and come back in 2 hours to pick it up.I say all this to say that the store you go to may not have the battery available and your trip to the store may be a waste of a trip. I was happy to know that my situation warranted them installing a battery today, but know that perhaps you can call ahead of time to make sure they have a battery available to install today.
