Hi All,
Thank you for your suggestions. To clarify, on the iPhone I go to:
Settings/General/Usage/Storage (not Settings/General/Usage/iCloud, and not Settings/Cellular - which gives the amount remaining for the month on my usage plan). It shows phone storage used as 11.3GB, and phone storage available as 1.3GB.
Since this is a 16GB phone it makes me wonder what is using the "missing" 3.4GB.
To complicate matters, when I look at the phone's storage usage in iTunes, I look at the colored bar that shows usage by audio, photos, apps, docs and data - and this bar indicates 3.24GB free.
A little research shows that IOS 8 is about 1.6GB. To add confusion, neither the phone nor iTunes seems to account for the space used by the OS. (On iTunes, it would be nice to see a colored bar indicating "system", or "IOS 8" - so we would know how much of the phone's memory is dedicated to the OS. There is a bar called "other", and maybe that is what "other" is.)
The phone itself shows the total storage used, then you can scroll down and see storage used by app (under Manage Storage on the Usage menu) - but IOS8 is not listed there.
So my question is - what is using up slightly more than 3GB of space on my iPhone? And a corollary question... why don't iTunes and the iPhone agree on storage allocation?
Thanks again in advance!
Frank D.
