I've only ever had one Apple ID, so everything was purchased under that ID.
I've been able to find one song in my account under "purchased items" in the iTunes Store. (It's really hard to find something in that list since I don't see a way to search.) So, for this item I purchased in 2012, I see the date and purchase price. In the iTunes program I've sorted "purchased items" by date, and no purchase is shown for that date.
If I search for the song in the iTunes Store, there is a "play" icon instead of the purchase price, indicating that I've already bought it. On the phone, if I select that icon, the song plays. On my computer, if I select that icon, I get the "song cannot be played because it cannot be located" message.
Regards,

If the iPhone showed a cloud icon for the song, then it sounds like you purchased on the iPhone, but possibly with a different Apple ID.On Aug 6, 2014, at 12:47 PM, Leti Yahoo l_labell@yahoo.com [apple-iphone] wrote:Thank you Brent and Otto.I've found the songs listed in iTunes, with the message they cannot be located on my computer. Then I located them on my phone, where they had a cloud icon. I selected that icon and downloaded the songs to my phone, where I can play them normally. However, they STILL do not sync with my phone. How do I get them to transfer? In a probably related problem, I'm trying to update to the latest iOS version. I keep getting an error saying "There are purchases on your iPhone which are not in your iTunes library…" I have tried transferring (right clicking on my iPhone and select Transfer Purchases.) It goes through a transfer sequence, but nothing is transferred.I'm reluctant to upgrade until I get thus resolved - I don't want to lose my songs. Any suggestions?

See iTunes for more information." The number varies with each sync.
What does this mean? Exactly where am I supposed to look in iTunes for more information.
