Well I did what Tony suggested, recalibrating the battery by allowing it to drain completely then charge it fully and repeat this several times.
It certainly seems to have improved the life of the battery by doing this.
I suspect too that some app might be causing the problem so I turned off notifications and such that I really don't need.
I too suspected some app that might be draining it in the back ground but I make sure none are running, so it may very well be iCloud that is the issue.
I suppose I should ask this question How long should the iPhone 5 battery last on any given day with very little use?
