[apple-iphone] New case for 4S, but iPhone no longer connects to portable Bose unit

Long story short, I briefly lost my iPhone 4S when the case I was using parted company with its belt clip. About an hour later, I retraced my steps and found it had (thankfully) been turned in at the front counter of the store I'd been in, and hadn't been damaged in the fall. But even if I could re-attach the case to the belt clip, I no longer trusted it.

To replace it, I had somewhat limited options at my local stores, so I ended up with an Otterbox, which is not just a carrier, but actually completely encases the phone. It works fine as a protection for the phone, but it is too big to allow me to plug the phone into my Bose portable sound dock, which we've been using for several years to provide music in whatever room we're in at home. The case is just thick enough and the protective flap for the connector is just bulky enough that I can't seat the iPhone on the unit.

It's too much of a hassle to take the 4S out of the Otterbox every time I want to hear some music, so I'm wondering if there are "extenders" for the 4S connector that I could use to attach the 4S to the Bose? I haven't seen any in Best Buy or Future Shop, and the staff just look at me strangely when I try to describe what I need...

Regards,
Nicholas
