>>> IMO it is a really bad decision on Apple's part. >> >> Many have said so. >> >> On the other hand, many have been telling Apple for years to separate out of iTunes things that are not "iTunes", including Apps, Movies, Videos, TV shows, Books, … > > Then they should have iApps, etc., applications similar to iTunes to manage apps, movies, books, etc. They have just taken Apps out of iTunes. Apps are on the iDevices, and they can be updated in a very straightforward manner on the iDevice. The App Store is on the iDevices, and apps can be searched for an downloaded in a very straightforward manner on the iDevice. iTunes does not currently back up applications. On the other hand, it has NEVER backed them up. > Not to mention a backup for data such as contacts, calendars, notes, blah blah. Having to go thru a dozen different things to back up the iPhone is not good. My contacts, calendars, and notes are synced through iCloud, and are backed up every time that I back up my Mac. Pretty damn easy. My iDevices back up to iCloud automatically most nights, and I regularly make encrypted manual backups to my Mac when I connect the device to the computer. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jim Saklad mailto:jimdoc@icloud.com
