Thanks Pat. Looks like Saturday will be dedicated to mass update. I have many apps that won't run on iOS 11.  Would it be ok to do an OTA update without removing beforehand? Would an update via iTunes be better ?  Would they  not be loaded if I did it through iTunes and a restore from backup. A questionable way to go. Answering my own question it probably is better to get rid of excess non functioning files before updating 😞
