Hi Dutch - just before updating I read about the new format. It advised going into setting and changing the format to more compatible rather than the space spacing. If the 'more compatible' is checked, photos and videos will be saved as JPEGs and h264.
Settings▶️Camera▶️formats▶️most compatible.
Also be sure Settings▶️photos▶️transfer to MAC or PC is set to automatic.

I've run into another issue with the iOS 11 upgrade. There were a bunch of videos taken last night on my iPhone of my band. I moved them over to my MacBook Pro and when I try to open them I get a message that the file is not compatible with Quicktime. Apparently all of the video files taken are now in the HEVC format that Quicktime won't open.
