Re: [apple-iphone] Spontaneous power-off

Nick, I was thinking you meant the phone was unlocked from your carrier, not that you had locked the SIM car and it's contents.

Yes - and the SIM has behaved normally on power off/on since the incident I mentioned. Just the one event - the iphone turned itself off spontaneously, and, on power-up again, the SIM was not locked. Normal behaviour since. Only one event but very worrying.
Thanks for your input.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

So how would one know that the SIM had gotten un-locked?

This is not to say my iPhone doesn't have a passcode, but that has nothing to do with the SIM card.

(This might not apply in the US as it could be a cell network option.)

There is an option, at least here in the UK, to "lock" the SIM with a PIN independent of the phone's (any platform) normal passcode (or other security). The idea is that if the phone is ever shut down (not just in sleep mode) and then restarted, or if the SIM is transferred to another phone, the SIM cannot be used until the PIN is entered. Re: [apple-iphone] Problems since iOS 11

That very well may be it. If it is I know you can change how pictures are saved from the HEIC format to " most compatible"  which saves them as jpegs instead of HEIC. I am not sure if that changes what is already taken on the phone though. The locations is Settings➡️camera➡️formats.

That was the first thing I changed because I knew there would be issues with my windows computer.

I rarely use the windows drive access to photos I use photosync to wirelessly transfer.

However I did check my phone. I have a 6s plus and a Windows 10 machine. I DO get the folders with pictures to show the pictures just like before. Could it be a bug in your installation?  And I can manipulate the photos just as in Drive mode past.

Forgetting the number of apps I have lost while waiting for their compilers to produce new versions, iOS 11 seems to have created other problems.

Recent itunes changes are being commented on in this group - I agree it is a backward step nothing much was wrong with iTunes at all, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Since iOS 11, iTunes is often not triggered when I connect my iphone. I have to disconnect and reconnect two or three times before it opens iTunes (Windows 10 64 bit).

Also, I cannot access the iPhone's memory when connected - the iPhone shows in "This PC" of Windows, but there is no content. The "Properties" of "This PC" show the phone's memory etc absolutely correctly, but a double-click to open the iphone shows "Internal memory" but a double-click on that gives "This folder is empty" - i.e. the Windows PC connects to the phone but cannot explore it. This was my quick way to access the iPhone's Camera Roll and Apple get no points from me for straight and simple messing me around. I now have to go through other less easy routes to transfer photos.

In fact, I have never understood SIM PINs.
I don't have one; I never have; and I don't know what it would do for me.

This is not to say my iPhone doesn't have a passcode, but that has nothing to do with the SIM card.
