Norm,
In Downcast you can search for podcasts by keyword, or browse categories. You can also enter a url to add a specific feed. I was able to add all of the podcasts I had subscribed to with the Apple app, as well as identify new ones.
Also, deleting a podcast episode or marking it as read I think is easier with Downcast.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus with the latest IOS and a MacBookAir with 10.9.5. I am subscribed to several podcasts. After I listen to them they are supposed to be gone the next time. Sometimes if I don't want to listen to it all, I mark it as "Played." The next day when I go to my podcast list it has re-loaded many of those I had already listened to or marked as "Played". One of my podcasts has reloaded up to 20 episodes. The answer must lie in the Settings or Preferences. What am I doing wrong? It didn't used to do this. Thanks
