This usually happens when an update was interrupted. Only two solutions are:
1.) cable sync with iTunes on your computer - making sure the app is updated on the computer.
2.) if 1 doesn't work, erase and restore to backup.
It is likely happening to more than the one app. You can check by going to App Store and checking how many of the other apps under Update are also in the pending bucket.

Reboot the iPhone and try it again.
If it doesn't run, THEN delete it from the iPhone, and re-download it (always presuming you actually want MapQuest for your mapping needs).
