My iPad mini 2 is wifi only. I haven't had any problems with battery drainage. I have been having problems with Messages using the Swiftkey keyboard. I'm typing along nod the keyboard disappears s if I've pressed the keyboard icon in the bottom right corner, then it pops back up. Annoying bit it's a beta. The built in keyboard works the same as it always has.
