[apple-iphone] iCloud back up question with Gmail

 

My wife has bumped into the 5GB iCloud backup max with her iPhone and iPad on the same account.  She does not want to buy extra storage.


She uses the built in mail app but she does not use the Apple mail services. She only uses Gmail.


That being the case is there any reason for her to back up her mail to iCloud. I am thinking that if something unfortunate happens to her phone or iPad all of her mail will still be available via Gmail.


I had her clean out all the unnecessary stuff from both devices but her inbox is the major user of the storage space.

[apple-iphone] Something new in Mail

 

Recently, on my iPhone 4S, iOS 8.2, I am seeing a possibly new feature. On some of the emails I am getting from the yahoo and google groups I am on, at the top of the email, I am getting a dialog box to either ignore or add as a new contact. This has been happening for about the last month or so. I am also seeing the replies I write sent to some other member's user name, not the one I am replying to, but with the list's e-ddress. These two new "features" seem to be related. Any ideas as to what is causing this, how to stop it, or if there might be a bug fix in the works. My replies seem to make it to the proper list, and without the wrong username showing. I have not noticed this on my Mac, because at the moment 90% of my email is done on my iPhone. Six-month-old iPhone 5s Screen Replacement:
     Apple Store, OK City, OK: $129 + tax, 1 hour
     Local Cell Phone Repair Shops: $60-100, 0.5-2 hours advertised

Data as of 4/2/15. I went to the Apple Store, ~100 miles from home, to keep the remaining 6 months of original iPhone 5s Warranty intact.

Broken screen on iPhone??


Why not replace the broken screen?

Apple or any one of many shops will replace a screen...  some in less that a few hours..

I read that the rules at AT&T are changing but don't know if it has happened yet. Call Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask them.

You may have been an update behind. iOS 8.3 is the current version. I believe 8.4 will be released on June 8. They may wait until then to fix this bug.
