Oh, I see. I thought you *wanted* the new backup to start from new. If not, yours is the obvious way to do it.

Excellent question - probably would work. But then Itunes makes a new backup which takes quite a while. If one copies the backup to another folder then that current backup in the mobile sync folder will update more quickly. Copying the file is much quicker with the size of my backups
