Re: [apple-iphone] Data Usage using WiFi

If you want to keep your data usage low, turn off cellular data and data roaming. Also turn off the automatic update of apps, and go through your apps and check to see what uses cellular data.

Yes, to check your email away from WiFi, you will have to temporarily turn cellular data on.

I recently switched from ATT to Consumer Cellular because of cost benefits.  Since I have the Data usage part of my plan set so low, I have been keeping a close watch.

To my surprise I found I am using data usage when checking email while on home WiFi, even with the Cellular Data turned off.   I have contacted Consumer Cellular but they seem to be unfamiliar with iPhone 5s.

Here are my current settings.

Under "Settings"
Wi-Fi is ON,
Bluetooth is ON.

Under "Cellular"
Cellular Data is ON
Enable LTE is ON
Data Roaming is ON

Under "Use Cellular Data For"

Among the choice here are Mail and Mailbox, both ON.  If turned OFF wouldn't it be necessary to turn them back on every time I wanted to check my email when away from Wi-Fi?

Do I have my setting correct for keeping my Data Use usage down?

Thanks,
Barbara
