Many thanks for the tips, I think I have sorted it by creating my new email address as a new sign up, fingers crossed.

Best you send an email to itunes. You can do that thru the apple.com site. I have had problems with itunes before. I had to change my email address along the way and now I have two email addresses because they will not merge them. So when I update apps I have to remember both passwords for both accounts even though only my cloud apple address is the one I use. Then the original email I signed up with many years ago when itunes first started, has some music I bought thru that account and have had trouble retrieving those songs under a new email address. I have told them this is all very confusing. We have emailed back and forth about this. I tunes really needs to think about how to reorganize this situation with email addresses and passwords in my opinion.
