"What I've noticed with the non-Apple cord, when I plug the phone into it, there is a message that comes up on the screen telling me that it has not been plugged into a genuine Apple cord; which hasn't been a problem."
And we should care - why? This is the same as the messages from printer manufacturers "use only genuine ____ ink cartridges". Yeah - they hope you will - that is how they make money.
The genuine Apple cords seem to have fixed the early quality problems that had me going through 3 or 4 right after the 5 came out. That said, they are pricey, and the aftermarket seem to be just as robust, and a little longer which helps me. Now, it seems the new style cords are conveniently everywhere, even gas stations which help when I forget my charger at home.

I misplaced my iPhone5 charging cable that came with the phone.
Where can I get another one and how much should it cost?
