Thanks to all who responded. The Kim Komando story mirrored my experience. They called back later in the day and I rejected the call on the first ring..
I then removed the Apple Phone number from my contacts and blocked the new number that showed up in my recents list.
I have tried a few call blocking apps but they still let calls ring hrough.
