Re: [apple-iphone] iTunes Shutdown

Strange. I don't even have a Windows PC but just downloaded both the 64-bit and 32-bit Windows versions with no problems from <https://www.apple.com/itunes/>.

I had some more time to look at this issue.  The Apple link to download iTunes does not work..  It gives you a message "Thank You For Downloading iTunes"..  Nothing happens after that.  It has been that way for several days.  I am not sure if this is an intentional shut down or not but it does not work.

After trying several other links, I found this one that works.  It is not an Apple page.

<<mostly because there is  no detailed printed manual for it.>>

The complaint so many of us make of so many items of modern technology. The trouble is that it is self-perpetuating. To devise, edit and index a written volume properly is a major undertaking, heavy on human input. On the other hand, the argument by the producers of software, hardware, cars, electronic goods etc that there is no demand for better manuals is not quite on the ball. The demand is also low because the manuals are so rotten - badly written and inadequately-indexed. The problem is circular, and the shelf-life of each product very short. Only forums (like this one) can really cover the ground.

Re: [apple-iphone] Saving File on iPhone

I have been using Apple Mac computers since 1987

When I retired in 2005, part of my retirement package from the university was my office Apple Mac computer. That was running OS 10.4.11 - and I was perfectly happy with that.

Unfortunately, the PSU cremated the Motherboard so I had to replace it.

I bought a second-hand Mac Pro 3.1 which has OS 10.6.8 installed.

I needed OS 10.6.8 because that would  allow me to run my existing software - I could  NOT afford to replace any software nor face the precipitous learning curve discovering how to use it.

I am VERY happy with the equipment that I have now on my desk.

The problems are with the iPhone - and that's mostly because there is  no detailed printed manual for it.

With best wishes and thanks

MC  - I used to use an app and windows program called Doc's to Go. (In fact I still have it on my phone and checked to be sure it would do what you want). It is a purchase though. With it you can directly sync between the Mac and computer without using the cloud. I have included this link to a support FAQ and the products page. It is very simple to use. And worked for me for years since Palm and Treo days. Boy am I dating myself.

I have used the Action icon to save the file in FILES but it appears to be saved in The Cloud but NOT locally.

I do NOT understand why I can't save the file on my iPhone.

In general, I do NOT want any of my files on The Cloud. I have no doubt that you will tell me it's impossible but if the Cloud fails, then my files will be lost.

And please do NOT tell me that it's impossible for the Cloud to fail. I know of many instances when things that are deemed impossible have happened.

But the problem of saving the file is  now solved, Thank you all

MC you are not senile haha. It may be technique. First off - are you running the current version of iOS. It may be if you have an older version my steps won't work. I am on 12.4. If you are current,  after you open the attachment, are you first hitting the icon with the box and arrow and selecting "print"? When you get to the print screen ( where the printer is shown and the number of copies wanted and options are shown) put your fingers on the document itself and then zoom out.  The document will expand and the printer options will disappear but you can still see the action button in the upper right hand corner. Hit the icon   again and all your file storing options will be shown..

The other technique which works on my iPhone X is the hard press on the document. If you have a phone that has the hard press option try that on the document itself after you have selected the print option.  Press the screen  hard and it should expand obscuring the print options but leaving the action icon.

I hope you can accomplish this pdf conversion. I use it all the time to save things - emails, attachments, web pages esp when reader view is available.

Unfortunately, the text on these pages is  too faint to read.

This may be because I am an extremely protanomalous trichromat

Thanks anyway
