I used private internet access but I noticed it was doing outgoing weirdness on my desktop. My firewall kept warning me of attempts to contact someone in cyberspace. I removed it and the notifications stopped. I then used PureVPN but thought again that I may be sending info to a company based in Hong Kong. I didn't feel that was very secure. I now am using ProtonVPN. They are a Swiss based company that also offers encrypted email services. The Swiss have tough privacy laws so I feel more comfortable. They have servers in many countries and the speed is fast. There are free versions and paid versions. I took the middle of the road to get many servers, ability to use it on 5 devices and the speed is good.
It is tough to really know which ones are secure, don't log or are less likely to be hacked. I think a paid app may be best because if it's free they have fund it some how.
