The £30 limit is default - can be changed by the retailer - e.g. Apple Store - unlimited. UK Ford dealers - unlimited.

You still have to have your phone to hand even if your wallet isn't. Is that such big difference? In addition, Apple Pay, like the already existing contactless card payment system, is of limited use because payments are limited to £30. Perhaps that will change as confidence grows. Does a similar limit apply in the USA?
