I finally used Apple Pay today at a Wegman's Supermarket. The terminal had both symbols displayed. The cashier didn't know how to use it and it took awhile to find the spot where it worked. Once I held it over the display monitor all was good, EXCEPT...I was expecting that I would be required to enter my Passcode on the watch. That didn't happen. So what is the purpose of the Passcode? My iPhone was in my pocket and presumably locked. On my iPhone watch app settings I have "simple passcode" enabled and "unlock with iPhone" enabled. It was nice to leave my wallet in my pocket and pay with the watch.Bobby
If you aren't wearing your Apple Watch when you unlock it, it will re-lock after a short time.
If you ARE wearing it when you unlock it, either with the passcode or using the iPhone, and the back (with the heart-rate sensor) is in continuous contact with your skin, it remains unlocked, even when the iPhone re-locks itself.
Presumably you unlocked your watch, either with the passcode or with the iPhone, when you last put it on.
So if you need to do anything on your watch, you shouldn't need to re-unlock it until you have taken it off for a while.
And the functions you have activated, like Apple Pay, will continue to work.
