I, too, find no method on the iPad of going directly and simply to a specific date AND the Day display.
However...
On the iPhone, the display is too small to show, in month view, more than a single dot on a day that has one, or more than one, entry, whereas the iPad can and does show the text from the Title field for several entries in a single day.
So if you go to Year Display mode on the iPhone and tap on a particular day of a particular month, the iPhone opens *that* day.
But if you do the same thing on the iPad, it displays *that month* -- in which you can easily see what the appointments are/were on which day. For some purposes, this is all that is needed. For other purposes, one more step is needed -- tapping on the event in question to edit it.
