Am I missing something here? Is there a separate iMessage app? Or a setting to force it to only send it as an iMessage?
Or is it something that the user has no control over on the iPhone?

iMessage could be received at the same time in iPhone and wifi iPad as long you configured your iPad! Advantage of this is you could type longer and faster SMS compared on that on iPhone and it is free to both if it is via wifi! Not really sure of the rate if you're using data plan.Erlie
Sent from my 🍎iPhone5So sending it as iMessage is always a better option than as SMS as per the charge. If it's blue couloir then it's iMessage and it has gone via data or wifi some kind of internet connection. The advantage here is a long message can be sent out which otherwise could lead to 2/3 sms.
Vishal ShethSent From My iPhone 5If you have unlimited data plan, it's practically free. If not, it consumes a somewhat negligible amount of data, unless you send photo or some files.
Sent from my iPadBut what if I'm not on wifi but on the cell network. Is it still free?
Cheers,B.L>It is via Wi-Fi and is iphone to iphone; which would be free. Face time calls iphone to iphone are free as well, anywhere in the world, also Wi-Fi. When it is on Wi-Fi, it doesn't affect your minutes, it's data.

Hi,
I see iMessage as a response to a text message I got. I just see Message for others. I do not have a texting plan, so is the iMessage free to receive and reply?
Thanks,
