Yes! It is an option for those who don't use iCloud. Also the transfer of individual pictures to a computer without wires is very simple. No searching in windows explorer if you have a pc. Also doesn't photo stream sync all pictures between iPhone and iPad? ( I don't use photo stream). With the app one can pick and choose ( good if there is limited space on one of the devices).
