Good news! Learning the new way of doing things was much faster for me than what I had anticipated. To adjust your screen brightness, go to Settings>Display & Brightness and drag the slider.

I want to find the setting that lets me have a brighter screen. The true tone thing isn't as bright as I would like. Thank to all for your reviews and pushing me over the iPhone X fence. I was seriously going to stick with the 8+. Right now I am glad that I didn't.
